Microchipping

A microchip can provide a lifetime of permanent identification if your dog or cat gets lost.

No matter how eagle-eyed or how much of a “helicopter” pet parent you are, accidents can happen. In just a split second, your pet can slip away and get lost. Traditional collars and tags can break or come loose. Microchipping is a way to ensure your pet has an ID 24/7 that will never erode. Call us at 905-885-8151 for more details on how this technology can give you and your family peace of mind. We perform microchipping procedures on all types of pets here at Ganaraska Animal Clinic.

Do microchips show a pet’s location?

No. They are not like a GPS. Instead, we can embed your contact info and your pet’s vital health details on the microchip. It can then be scanned by veterinarians or rescue groups so they have a way of reaching out to you if they find your pet. It’s particularly useful for pets who have diabetes or other chronic diseases so the team who finds them are aware of their condition and make the necessary adjustments for them.

How much does it cost to microchip a pet?

Please don’t hesitate to call us for our latest service rates.

How often do I need to replace my pet’s microchip?

Not at all. They are designed to last a lifetime. That being said, we can check your pet’s microchip as part of their routine wellness exam. One thing to remember though is to update the info embedded in the chip if ever your pet’s health status of your contact info changes. We will also help you with doing this.

Is it safe to microchip a pet?

For sure. The device is quite small and is made of materials that can be safely inserted inside your pet. It is also a relatively painless procedure. Your pet will feel only a minor pinch and so sedation is often not necessary (but can be requested for particularly anxious pets).
