Behavioural Counselling

Helping you discover the root cause of your pet's unwanted behaviours.

Whether you are a seasoned pet parents or a newbie, you know having a furry friend is not always sunshine and rainbows. Pets can be mischievous and cause trouble from time to time. Minor quirks or annoyances can often be resolved with patience and positive reinforcement, but for more disruptive behaviours, it is best to seek professional help. Our team can help get to the root of any behavioural problems in your pet, and formulate a customized plan so they are behaving in a safer and more pleasant manner. Call us at 905-885-8151 to learn more.

How do I know if my pet needs behavioural counselling?

At the end of the day, only you can decide your capabilities and boundaries when it comes to dealing with unwanted actions and habits from your pet. If their behaviour is negatively affecting your routine, and putting you, other people and animals in danger, then we suggest you reach out to our veterinary team. With us, you will have a one-one-one and personalized treatment plan for your pet. It will save you time, effort and money wasted from trying dubious methods on the internet or TV.

What happens during a behavioural counselling session for pets?

Essentially, our programs here at Ganaraska Animal Clinic focus on three main outcomes: Manage, Modify and Prevent. You will have time to explain your problems with your pet. Then, one of our veterinarians will conduct a tip-to-tail check-up on your pet (along with possible diagnostics like bloodwork and X-rays) to see if there are any underlying medical causes to their behaviour. Afterwards, the vet will formulate a plan for your pet and show you how to perform certain commands and modifications. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to track you and your pet’s progress and tweak treatments as necessary. Recommendations on diet, feeding schedule, sleeping arrangements, and more can also be made.
